RV Tweaks

This will be an ongoing post page.  From time to time I will post to the blog as well.
  1. Summer 2014.  Once we bought our current RV I added two type 27 batteries bringing our house batteries to three (315amps).
  2. Summer 2014..  I also added a 1000 watt inverter to run a few 120 watt items when not connected or on shore power.
  3. Winter 2014/15. I am adding two one hundred watt solar panels and a controller, I may add more panels later.  I will take the two batteries that I had added (in the summer) to the house battery bank and disconnect.  These two batteries only will be charged by the two solar panels.  My primary goal for the initial solar is so I have power every night for my oxygen concentrator and CPAP without the need for shore or generator power. At fifty percent solar draw the two panels will generate at least 5.25 amps an hour during peak daylight.  This should replace my nightly draw for my medical equipment. I may add a 100 watt portable solar panel or two more roof panels for the house battery in the spring.

    Update Summer 2015

Now have three 105 amp batteries and can run my O2 equipment one night off the grid with these and the solar.  Concentrator draws a lot of amps overnight, I can only run my CPAP for nights 2 and 3 with the batteries.  I use O2 bottles on nights 2 and 3. The batteries are full charge for night 4 so all can run again off the battery bank.

I could run my generator and have the batteries recharged nightly, but I want to keep developing my solar option.  I feel trimming up the wiring will will give me a few more amps, so the tweaks will continue.

    Update Summer 2016

Added a generator chimney to my RV so if I need generator power, I can run my generator and not worry about fumes.  Cost around $100.00 and well worth it.

We bought a new car dolly to haul our spark in retirement and posted a post on it in the regular blog.  Until we hit the road full time we will not use it much but we wanted to get set-up while still working.  It is not worth taking a car with us on local over night trips,  we will plan a few longer trips to get our selves some experience towing a car in 2017.
